This puzzle is made up of 11 non-identical pieces. When fitted together correctly, they form the shape of a pistol.
Japanese master craftsman Tsunetaro Yamanaka (1874-1954) was the first to develop the figural wooden Interlocking Puzzles known as Kumiki. "Kumiki" is a Japanese word meaning "to join wood together', which is, of course, precisely what is done with Interlocking Puzzles.
His innovation was in designing puzzles that resembled buildings, vehicles, animals- real, everyday objects- instead of mere abstract shapes and figures.
