Legend has it that this clever game was invented by a French nobleman imprisoned in the Bastille in the 18th century. Not surprisingly, perhaps, this game enjoys its largest popularity in France.

Start with a vacant space in the center of the board. Begin jumping over balls into vacant spaces using the other balls. Every ball that is jumped over is removed from the board. The object is to remain with one single ball in the center space of the board.
